Information Search

We all come across the problem of information search over and over throughout life. It doesn’t matter whether we use internet, files from the disk, database, or a global information system of some large company as our information source.

The problems can get countless: it’s the physical volume of the database in which the search is being conducted, it’s the unstructured information and different types of formats of files containing the needed information, it’s even the complexity of wording the query properly. Even now the volumes of information on a single separate PC can be compared to the amount of texts in a large library. And those volumes of unstructured information are yet to grow bigger as the time progresses, becoming larger and larger with gigantic steps. If for the average user this lack of control of information is not that big of a deal, for big enterprises it can become a real disaster. Thus the need for search systems that would ease and speed up the process of accessing the needed information has been long called for. There are lots and lots of those systems on the market, yet by far not each of them is a unique technology. The choice of technology then lays on the problems that need to be solved. The demand for flawless and exquisite search and information processing tools only increases with time. What does supply have to offer to that? 

Not to go into the snaps and ginger of modern technologies, search programs and systems can be divided into three groups. They are: global internet-based search engines, ready solutions for business (corporate technologies of information search and processing) and simple file or phrase search on the local PC. Different problems call for different solutions.
