Based on the tests and a scrupulous examination of each program in this review, we can draw certain conclusions. So, Google Desktop Search and Copernic Desktop Search will suit the needs of an average user as home search engine systems. Though they confuse the user with their settings, they manage easy queries very well and moreover are completely free. Google’s attempt to enter the corporate search engine market isn’t really justified: to work properly it still needs to be equipped with additional modules, though it’s already far from being easy to set up. Thus a speaking name of Desktop Search both in Copernic and Google reserves the field of desktop search engines for them. Although, more powerful solutions from dtSearch, iSYS and SearchInform aren’t any worse and also offer their desktop versions to the user...at a reasonable price, unlike free software from Google and Copernic. Yet dtSearch, iSYS and SearchInform developers mainly target nothing but the corporate sector. Work with the network, functionality, high speed of indexing and search — all that makes these products different from their “competitors”. Based on the test results SearchInform became the winner. This program searches for similar documents, has solid set of functions and the best indexing speed.
