Similar content search

Similar content search in contrast to phrasal search is not a standard kind of search, but as there are not so many tools in its tool bar, understanding how it works should not be a problem. The point is to understand the core of this kind of search, and to relish the benefits of it later on. The core of this search is that it's conducted not by separate words or even phrases, but by the whole text, i.e. the query represents a text of a certain size. Due to effective algorythms, developed by the SearchInform company, this kind of search has stepped much farther than ordinary comparison of words from the search line with the words in a certain document. The system of similar content search carries out a trully intellectual search, taking proper consideration of the multitude of parameters and the peculiarities of a sample text. The main principle of similar content search is giving priority to documents, similar in their content, as opposed to mere concurrence of symbols. In short, it's much more convincing to try this kind of search in action. Read further the description of the "Similar search" tool bar.

"Look for" field in the "Similar search" tab, in contrast to "Phrase search" tab, is multilined. This is logical from the point of view of its purpose. To enter text into this window, use the Ctrl+V hot key, which will paste the text into this window from the clipboard. Or you can enter the text from the keyboard. In any case SearchInform will try to find documents, containing the text similar to the text, which you enter into this field. The "Look for" field enables utilizing the "important words" function (detailed information is provided in "What you need for a high-quality search" paragraph. For each individual query you can quickly select the appropriate important words without creating new lists of Important words in the "Important words manager". To mark the important words in the current text, you should select the necessary part of text with the curser, right-click it and choose "Select important document-indexing-softwares" from the contextual menu. The selected word will automatically be highlighted in yellow. To cancel the importance of some word, you should mark it in the same way and choose the "Unselect important document-indexing-softwares" option from the contextual menu.

"Clear" button clears the "Look for" field, preparing it for entering new text.

Pressing the "Last searches" button results in a drop down menu, consisting of the first lines of the latest queries that you entered. If you select one of these searched items, in the "Look for" field the whole text of the corresponding query will appear.

"Index" button allows choosing one of the indexes, accessible by the application.

"
Search" button correspondingly carries out search for documents, similar to that entered into the "Look for" field fitting all the set parameters. The search is conducted by the currently active index.

"Relevance" option allows to limit the number of records in the result window. In contrast to the "Phrase search" tab, the limitation here is carried out not by rigidly fixing the number of results, but fixing the lowest permissible relevancy percentage with the help of the "Relevance" toddle.

To use the lists of synonyms when conducting the similar content search, activate the
"Use synonyms" option. It is deactivated by default.

The following fields will be accessible on checking the "Show important words configuration" checkbox in the "View" option of the main menu.
