The program its developers claim to be the quickest and the most convenient search engine, like all the others at the presentation, really. Interface dtSearch is quite simple, but some windows and property pages are overloaded with elements, which creates an impression of complexity of use. In reality serious complexities don’t arise. The only really negative moment is the absence of Russian interface, even though the search of documents can be performed in a few languages. Although, dtSearch is one of a few utilities that can index web-pages with the “depth” set by the user (for that, though, you need to buy an add-on dtSearch Spider additionally). All that aside from supporting files of various text formats and electronic mail box Outlook. At the same time the program can’t work with databases, which are such a yummy pie for search engines because of the big volumes of information contained in them as well as because of the their wide usage in companies and thus in corporate networks. The indexing speed wasn’t bad, it even shared the second place in the list of the fastest systems with another competitor — iSYS. dtSearch took 6 hours and 13 minutes to index the tested 20 Gbytes of information and created a search index of 7.9 Gb.

The search features are quite adequate. There is a morphological search (a word in all its stem forms), which is quite useful for you never know in what form the query word might appear in the text. The use of morphological function is always justified, so it’s a must-have of any professional search engine. Sound search is something totally untypical even for professional search engines. The main catch is that the program will look for words that sound similar to the query.
