dtSearch Desktop

dtSearch developments include a line of search engines for both home use and work in the corporate network. dtSearch Desktop with dtSearch Spider module can index and search not only files on the user computer, but also Web-sites, local network resources, as well as apply external indexes created on other computers.

Interface-wise dtSearch is quite simple. The indexing speed wasn’t bad, it even took the second place in the list of the fastest systems. dtSearch took 6 hours and 13 minutes to index the tested 20 Gbytes of information and created a search index of almost 8 Gb.

The search features are quite adequate. There is a morphological search (a word in all its stem forms) and search with mistake correction, that is work with all words containing syntactic mistakes (typos, errors in the documents received from symbol recognition systems, etc.). There are settings that allow you to define the degree of the possible inaccuracy. There is a thesaurus function, but there is no provided list of synonyms in dtSearch.

Aside from already listed features, dtSearch can conduct search using phrases, consisting of words joined by logical operations. Each word in the query can be given its own set weight. There is a very useful option of using a dictionary of unimportant words, so as to exclude them from the query processing. Although that dictionary is also empty, so you’ll have to make your own.
