SearchInform Desktop Professional

This program of full text document search on personal PC combines the abilities of phrase search with due consideration to morphology and thesaurus and the similar document search technology.

SearchInform Desktop Professional interface is a bit bulky — in the beginning you’ll have trouble remembering which menu and which tab contains the needed option. The process of creating an index in SearchInform isn’t complicated, and the speed of indexing is higher than that of other search engines. The program took 3 hours and 17 minutes to index 20 gigabytes creating an index of 4.4 Gbytes. Aside from the standard files and folders the program also supports electronic mail indexing, connection and indexing of databases and other external sources. While indexing you have an option of specifying which dictionary you want to use for morphological search.

Speaking of this system’s capacities, let’s start with the phrase search: it’s stemming search, quote search, logical operations, syntactical search (search by word beginning, middle or end), mixed quote search (when all the words from the query must occur in the document, though not necessarily in the order they were entered), search with error and typo correction, search using synonym, “almost quote search” (search for the query phrase as a quote with the possibility of other words occurring in-between query words) etc. Beside that, there is a feature enabling you to use the dictionary ‘unimportant words’, a ready-made list of which is already inbuilt in the program; as well as the dictionary of important words.

The peculiarity of this program – search for documents similar in their content to the query text.
